Student-Centered Strategies and Activities to Encourage Critical Thinking Skills

This website lists and explains different strategies that can be used for various ages and subject.

A few examples are:

     3-2-1 Strategy

      • Students will answer the following concerning a review of material or as encouragement for discussion
        • Three things you have learned from this lesson or text
        • Two questions you still have
        • One aspect of the class/text that you enjoyed
      • This information can then be shared with partners, groups, teacher or class

     Four Corners

      • Student will show their stance on a particular topic or statement.
        • In the four corners of the room post signs that read (strongly agree, agree, disagree, strongly disagree)
        • Introduce the statements that the students will respond to, and allow them time to think and write down their response
        • Read the statement and have students move to the corner of the room that represents their stance
          • Have discussions, ask for volunteers to explain their reasoning
        • Have student reflect
